The Atlantic has reached tentative agreements with its editorial and business/tech unions, agreeing to boost wages, according to the NewsGuild of New York.
If ratified by the membership, the three-year deal will raise salary floors for the lowest-paid workers by up to 55% and lift wages by an average of 17% over the life of the contract, the union says. In addition, it will enhance job security and build guardrails on the use of AI, the union says.
“Since the start of negotiations, our bargaining committee has insisted that the workers who have made The Atlantic so successful deserve fair compensation and strong protections,” says David A. Graham, staff writer and member of the bargaining committee. “This deal does that, lifting up wages for our lowest-paid members across both units and providing new job-security measures for all.”
The Atlantic states, ”This is a significant moment in the long history of our magazine, and we feel these first agreements uphold the values and culture that make The Atlantic exceptional, while setting us on a path for continued editorial excellence, business growth, and innovation.
