Benjamin Goad has been named executive editor of The Tennessean, a paper in Gannett’s USA Today Network.
He replaces Michael A. Anastasi, the top
editor for nine years, who has been named senior vice president of local news at the USA Today network, effective December 30, The Tennessean reports.
In two years
managing TheTennessean's daily operations, Goad has helped it evolve from a print newspaper to a 24/7 digital news organization, according to The Tennessean.
He joined the paper in 2016 as its business and entertainment editor.
Anastasi comments: “Ben is the right leader for this moment. He understands Nashville in every way and will
continue to propel The Tennessean forward and ensure it successfully completes its digital transformation and is here to serve Nashvillians for the next hundred
years.”
Goad brings “vast experience, local knowledge and an appreciation for what makes Nashville a special place,” adds Mark Russell, vice
president and South region editor for the USA Today Network, to whom Goad will report.
The new executive editor started his career at The Chicago News Bureau, and has worked
at such publications as The Press Enterprise and The Hill.
