The Atlantic has hired two top Washington Post political reporters and is apparently planning to add more journalistic power to its staff.
Joining The Atlantic as staff writers in mid-January are Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer.
Parker, the Post’s senior national political correspondent, is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner. Scherer is a national political reporter, focusing on campaigns and electioins since 2017. He has also worked for Time.
Both have “distinguished themselves as scoop-driven stylists—they are both relentless, well-sourced reporters with a keen sense of language and narrative, and a deep belief in the importance of accountability journalism,” writes Jeffrey Goldberg, editor in chief of The Atlantic. “They will make great additions to our already excellent politics team.”

Goldberg adds: “As we move into 2025, it is vitally important for us to cover Washington—the implementation of the MAGA agenda; the role of money (foreign and domestic) in our politics; the future of the Democratic Party — in the most comprehensive and rigorous way possible, and Ashley and Michael will play important roles in helping us meet our goals.”
The Atlantic passed the 1-million subscriber mark in March, and has added 100,000 since then, The New York Times reports. The publication, which is controlled by billionaire investor Laurene Powell Jobs, announced in October that it is returning to a full 12-month print schedule this month, having reduced the number to 10 in 2002.
