The Media Guild of the West, which
represents newsroom workers, reports that 30 members or more have been directly affected by the California wildfires within evacuation zones. And the fires have destroyed the homes of at least three
members.
Guild members are launching efforts to help their members through the CWA Members’ Relief Fund.
One Guild staffer, Graham
Fortier, lost his house in the Eaton Fire in Altadena. He and his family are safe, but they lack adequate insurance because their insurer determined they were not insurable, and have
launched a GoFundMe effort.
“So many of you have reached out volunteering to help, asking what you can do, and we love and appreciate each one of you,” the couple
wrote.
Meanwhile, due to the fire coverage, TV stations saw their viewership double and even triple in some cases, the Wrap reports.
