Lee Enterprises admits that its business has been
affected by a cyber attack.
“The incident impacted the Company’s operations, including distribution of products, billing, collections, and vendor payments,” the firm says in
an SEC filing.
It adds, “Distribution of print publications across our portfolio of products experienced delays, and online operations were partially
limited.”
Lee, which publishes over 70 news products, expects to achieve a phased recovery over the next several weeks.
The systems
outage occurred on Feb. 3.
A preliminary probe shows that “threat actors unlawfully accessed the Company’s network, encrypted critical applications, and
exfiltrated certain files,” Lee says.

Lee is now conducting forensic analysis to see if sensitive data or personally identifiable information was
compromised.
Meanwhile, as of February 12, “all core products are being distributed in the normal cadence, however weekly and ancillary products have not been
restored,” Lee continues. “These products represent five-percent of the Company’s total operating revenue.”
