Several publishers have signed an amicus brief, seeking access to records on attorney misconduct and the disposition of these cases.
The Media Freedom and Information Access
Clinic of Yale Law School filed the brief on behalf of nine news organizations, according to Law.com. It asks that the court affirm a trial court judgment allowing law professors to
access certain records.
These publishers seek to “underscore the substantial press and public interests advanced by the limited First Amendment access right” that had been upheld
by the district court, Law.com reports.
The brief was signed by Dow Jones Corp., the New York Times, the Daily News, Newsday, ProPublica and two press
associations, according to Law.com
Receiving such access, they hope to "promote public confidence that parties are acting properly, rules are being enforced, and justice is being
done in attorney disciplinary proceedings.”
