The U.S. Postal Service has asked at least one small newspaper to submit its annual Statement of Ownership prior to the usual October 1 deadline, and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association (WNA) is asking publishers if they have also received such a request.
According to WNA, one rural publisher was asked to “try to get an early start” this year and to submit the statement “at your earliest convenience.”
It was not clear at deadline why the USPS is asking for this.
The USPS states that the Statement of Ownership is usually due October 1 of each calendar year, WNA notes.
