'The Atlantic' Hires Three Staff Writers

The Atlantic has beefed up its reporting staff with three new hires.

Tyler Austin Harper, formerly a contributing writer, will become a staff writer, and Jenna Johnson and Dan Zak will join the staff as senior editors, both moving from The Washington Post.

Johnson served for 18 years at the Post, recently serving as immigration editor.

Zak wrote for the Post's Style section for nearly twenty years , then was named an editor in 2023. He is the author of Almighty, a book on anti-nuclear activists.

Harper was most recently an assistant professor of environmental studies at Bates College.

“As a contributing writer for us, he has published an impressive number of articles on an even more impressive range of topics: extreme fishing off Montauk, gun ownership in America, ChatGPT on college campuses, and many, many others,” writes Jeffrey Goldberg, editor in chief of The Atlantic.
