The Minnesota Star Tribune has named Kathleen Hennessey of the New York Times as its top editor, effective May 12.
Hennessey, a St. Paul native, was a deputy politics editor at the Times for the past three years and served earlier at the Associated Press.
She replaces Suki Dardarian, who retired earlier this year.
“You’re always looking for a candidate who matches the moment,” says Steve Grove, CEO and publisher of the Star Tribune. “And for us, the moment is one of real transformation. We have somebody who can both listen and collaborate but also articulate a clear journalism vision and drive it forward.”
Julie Pace, executive editor of the Associated Press, recruited Hennessey “because I wanted to work alongside her rather than compete with her. She cares really deeply about making sure stories are done in a way the audience wants.”
