Journalists and other publishing professionals looking for work should try Baltimore. The Baltimore Sun, a legacy title, and its non-profit competitor Baltimore Banner, are both hiring, according to Baltimore Fishbowl.
The Sun, which has suffered some staff erosion since its separation from former owner Alden Global Capital’s Tribune Company, lists 15 job descriptions on mediabistro.com. Its newsroom headcount now stands at 81, Fishbowl reports.
More than 12 reporters are wanted to cover such beats as education, public safety, food as well as politics editors and page designers, Fishbowl continues. It is not clear if these 12 jobs are part of the 15 jobs listed on mediabistro.

“We are expanding across all of our divisions in news, sales, finance, et al. as we work to peel functions away from Tribune’s systems and build out this new, local company,” says Trif Alatzas, editor and publisher of The Sun, according to Fishbowl.
The Banner, which has 83 staffers, hopes to fill reporting and copy desk positions along with product and sales jobs, Fishbowl adds. It says it is expanding coverage in suburban Montgomery County.
