The Washington Post has named Adam O’Neal as opinion editor.
O’Neal, formerly with The Economist, replaces David Shipley, who resigned in February after Post owner Jeff Bezos announced “a “turn away from a ‘broad-based opinion section’ toward one that focuses on conservative principles” and a free-market orientation.
The new opinion editor apparently plans to implement that vision.
“Our goal is to create the most dynamic and interesting opinion section in America,” O’Neal says in a video linked to in a story by The New York Times. “We want to use technology to improve our journalism while we host robust debates about the most important issues facing this country and the world.”
O’Neal adds: “We’re also going to be stalwart advocates of free markets and personal liberties. We’ll be unapologetically patriotic, too.”
He has also served as an editorial page writer at The Wall Street Journal.
