Employees of Snopes.com, the fact-checking site, have voted to form a union that will be represented by Media Guild of the West.
The Snopes Guild will
represent 10 eligible staff members, the Guild says. Of those workers, 80% voted to form the union.
The union is seeking voluntary recognition from Snopes leadership, including CEO Chris
Richmond, CFO Drew Schoentrup, executive editor Doreen Marchionni and director of accounting Amber Marsowicz.
The Guild notes that voluntary recognition is
increasingly common in the news business, and has included such publications as the LA Public Press, The New Yorker and ProPublica.
Founded in 1994, Snopes started by
investigating urban legends, hoaxes and folklore, the Guild adds.
