Gannett Is Closing Arizona Printing Plant, Resulting In Job Loss

Gannett is laying off 117 workers at its printing facility in Deer Valley, Arizona as it consolidates its print operations throughout the country.

The company is closing the print shop in October, Arizona’s Family reports. The Arizona Republic will then be printed in Las Vegas.

The publisher does not expect delivery of The Arizona Republic’s print edition to be affected. However, the change will result in earlier advertising and copy deadlines.

“Where our newspaper is printed does not impact our ability to deliver outstanding journalism,” says Lark-Marie Anton, chief communications and brand officer for Gannett, according to Arizona’s Family.

Anton adds, “The Arizona Republic will continue to provide readers with quality, local content that matters most to them, and to connect our valued advertising partners with the customers they want to reach,”

This follows the announcement in January that Gannett is closing its Sterling Heights, Michigan facility, where the Detroit News and over 30 other publications are printed. This work will be relocated to presses in Ohio, Tennessee and Illinois.

The Michigan closure, which is scheduled for next month, will result in the loss of 115 jobs, according to reports.
