Judge Tosses Trump's Defamation Suit Against 'The New York Times'

President Trump’s $15 billion defamation suit against The New York Times was thrown out by a federal judge on Friday.

U.S. Judge Steven D. Merryday, of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, criticized the “florid and enervating” pages included in the 85-page complaint, and noted that the formal allegation of defamation was not made until near the end of the complaint page, after pages that praised the president and listed his grievances, the Times reports.

“In this action, a prominent American citizen (perhaps the most prominent American citizen) alleges defamation by a prominent American newspaper publisher (perhaps the most prominent American newspaper publisher) and by several other corporate and natural persons,” Merryday reportedly wrote. “Alleging only two simple counts of defamation, the complaint consumes eighty-five pages. Count I appears on page eighty, and Count II appears on page eighty-three.”

Merryday added: “A complaint is not a public forum for vituperation and invective. Not a protected platform to rage against an adversary.”

The judge gave the president’s legal team 28 days to file an amended complaint, and ordered that it can be no more than 40 pages in length.

The suit, filed earlier last week, accuses The New York Times of defaming the president with a series of articles prior to the 2024 election.

The suit alleges that the Times articles and a book published by two of the journalists were “specifically designed to try and damage President Trump’s business, personal and political reputation,” the Times reports -- ant that the articles and book were published with “actual malice” toward Mr. Trump and caused “enormous” economic losses and damage to his “professional and occupational interests."

In addition to The New York Times Company, the defendants include Susanne Craig, Russ Buettner, Peter Baker, Michael S. Schmidt and Penguin Random House, which published a book about Mr. Trump written by Ms. Craig and Mr. Buettner.

In response to the judge’s order, a spokesperson for the Trump legal team said: “President Trump will continue to hold the Fake News accountable through this powerhouse lawsuit against The New York Times, its reporters and Penguin Random House, in accordance with the judge’s direction on logistics,”according to the Times.

This is not the only high-ticket suit being pursued pursued by President Trump.

In July, he filed a $10 billion+ libel suit against Dow Jones, News Corp., Rupert Murdoch and individual reporters.

Might there ever be, throughout history, a more nonsensically litigious butthole on Planet Earth? Presumably those 85 pages of horseshit bluster needed to be read, and now they're requesting 40 amended pages for a suit that will ultimately be thrown out for lack of foundation, but plenty of bullshit. Spare us. We are not gluttons for punishment...

So who might you be referring to - Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, Jack Smith, Merrick "Meritless" Garland? Those are the most litigious buttholes around. President Trump is completely correct regarding this lawsuit. Those of us with brains are so bored with the crap being continually shoveled out from the Left. Spare us....

Hmmmm. Registered Republican that has never voted for a Dem here. Voted for Trump in 2016, and 2020, but his fanning of the flames for January 6 was where I drew the line. If it makes you feel better, consider me left, but you better open your eyes << EDITED >> I cannot do it any longer. Voted Libertarian in the last election, and will never vote Republican again, in any election, until DumpTruck Trump is gone...

If you're not on the Left than I'm sorry you've been brainwashed by them. Jan 6 was a protest, not an insurrection. Anyone who thinks that should consider that if it was, it was the worst one ever - how do you have an "insurrection" with unarmed people? People who were ushered into the Capitol by the Capitol guards? No one ever answers these questions. The people there were protesters who were questioning the certification of an election that was questionable. << EDITED >> Trump is fixing all of this mess created by the Left. Trump is the best President this country has ever had. Can't wait for JD to possibly be the next President!

What a crock. I'm a 66 year old man that wouldn't vote for a Dem if a gun was at my head. My uncle Jack Caulfield was the Director of Security for Nixon's 1968 campaign, and stated on as White House security liaison right up until he spent days being grilled in Watergate hearings. Born and raised conservative, and was proud to help propel Ronald Reagan to the Oval Office. Still conservative, but Christian, and voted Libertarian in the last election because I see what my eyes see. I'm not blind. Not a scintilla of evidence was produced that the 2020 election was "rigged." It was just a humiliating loss... << EDITED >>
