Ryan Martin is returning to Gannett’s IndyStar as executive editor, effective September 29.
Martin had spent seven years at IndyStar, and
was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2021 for a probe into canine K-9 units and the damage that police dogs inflict. Martin also was a digital news director, content coach and investigative
reporter.
He had since served as managing editor for The Elkhart Truth, and most recently was deputy managing editor of Mirror Indy.
“With deep
connections to the Indianapolis community, Martin’s passion for his city and experience in local journalism aligns him with our mission of preserving vital reporting while championing innovative
ways to meet our audience where they are," says Gannett Media President Kristin Roberts. "Martin’s experience in newsroom leadership and audience growth at publications in
northern and central Indiana makes him an obvious choice for the role of Executive Editor.”

as its executive editor. For more than 15 years, I’ve fought to safeguard local news, leading newsrooms of various sizes and implementing innovative ways to reach new readers. I look forward to
reconnecting with the IndyStar and continuing our mission of delivering essential journalism to our community.”
