The New York Times has hired Patrick McGroarty from The Wall Street Journal to serve as a new economics editor.
McGroarty has held several positions
during his 16 years at the Journal. Most recently, he was "acting deputy world coverage chief,” according to an internal memo reported by TalkingBizNews.
Prior to that, he was health and medicine bureau chief for the Journal, driving coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic and other topics.
McGroarty has
also served as deputy bureau chief in Chicago and as a reported based in Johannesburg and Berlin.
He will be based in New York and will work closely with Deborah
Solomon, head of the economics team.
