NYT Appoints Mukul Devichand, Dylan Freedman To Its AI Initiatives Team

The New York Times has beefed up its AI Initiatives team with two new appointments.  

Mukul Devichand has been named editor, AI Initiatives, according to an internal memo.

He will be the editorial lead on two new user-facing projects pertaining to audio and search. He will also be the lead on projects that use AI for the benefit of readers.

Devichand  joined the Times in 2021 to help create the NYT Audio app. Previously, he was executive editor of voice and AI for the BBC.

Dylan Freedman has been promoted to AI projects editor, and will lead efforts to assist reporters with research and investigations. 

Freedman joined the Times last year from his post as principal software engineer at The Washington Post. He is based in the Washington bureau.
