Anna Wintour gave a warm endorsement to Bari Weiss,
the new editor in chief at CBS News, who has drawn some criticism for her conservative stance.
“Obviously, she’s a very accomplished young woman with a very strong personality and
a strong point of view,” Wintour told Variety on Monday night at the Only Make Believe’s 25th Anniversary Gala in New York City. “And that usually makes for
a great leader.”
David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance, announced last week that his firm would acquire The Free Press, the publication founded by Weiss
after she left The New York Times, for $150 million.
Asked if she had contemplated not working, the 75-year-old Wintour said, “That hasn’t arisen
yet.”
Wintour announced in June that she was stepping down as editorial head of American Vogue, although she retains the titles of chief content officer
for Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue.
In September, Chloe Malle was named as Wintour’s replacement on American
Vogue.
