AP Fund for Journalism Secures $30 Million In Funding Commitments

AP Fund for Journalism (APFJ) has won commitments from several organizations to help it bring AP content to local newsrooms.

The funding totaling over $30 million includes $25 million from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The other organizations are Lilly Endowment Inc. and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

This funding will allow APFJ to deliver nonpartisan, factual content and essential services too 100 additional state and local newsrooms in 2026. This will grow to 300 by 2028.

“The reality of the local news crisis in the U.S. means that many Americans continue to lack access to reliable reporting on issues that affect everyday life,” says Rachel White, CEO of APFJ.  “News deserts are growing; local news outlets are under relentless pressure; and trusted journalism is becoming harder to find. APFJ is a landmark initiative tackling these challenges head on.”
