A quick post to note:
Of the 23 subscriptions flowing into my RSS reader of choice (Google Reader), the Facebook Blog caught my eye Monday.
I encourage you to check out the link to see the graphs and get the detailed picture, but I'll
quote co-founder Dustin Moskovitz here:
Sure enough, our active users count was dropping off like a rock shortly before 6pm PST. But I wasn't worried. The same thing happens every
week at this time: hundreds of thousands of people tune out of Facebook to tune in to Grey's Anatomy.
Reaaaaaaaaaaaalllllly ...
Working around what appears to be a small bit
of sarcasm toward the end of the post, Moskovitz soon details this information:
At this point, almost ten million different users sign into the site every day, or more than half the
user base. During our biggest peaks - Sunday & Monday night around 10EST - more than one million people will be simultaneously logged into the site.
I know, I know ... You
hear us talking about Facebook all the time. It's ruling our lives, it's claiming free time, leading to more sheltered social situations and may even cause cancer, etc ...
My point? If
Moskovitz's correlation is indeed correct, it goes to show that some media battles can still be won. And as an added benefit, now you know when us social networkers are most bored.
Professors
take note: We need more weekend chores.
