Innovate or Die

This past weekend I attended the MMFX [ Manufacturing Material Effects ] symposium in Indianapolis, IN. This conference presented ideas about how developing digital technologies have and will impact the development of design and thinking, specifically, but not limited to, architecture.

At the conference it was suggested, not for the first time, that architects [ and everyone else ] have a responsibility to adapt and engage emerging technologies. To challenge and innovate on the structures that embody our culture.

I thought this was interesting because it really represents what the students who comprise this blog are after; to identify systems that don’t work and to push for something different.

The point has been raised in the past that ‘architects’ [ insert profession ] would be legally liable for work that blurs the lines between responsibilities. That because the ‘legal’ [ insert disconnect ]structure falls short, we should not engage in innovation.

Why?
