Emily Williams is a Director of Communications at Global Strategy Group (GSG), a public affairs firm, where she devises, manages, and helps implement digital engagements for a variety of political, advocacy, nonprofit and corporate clients. Prior to joining GSG, Emily was Vice President of Blueprint Interactive, where she led the strategy and execution of digital marketing campaigns for clients including the UN Foundation, EMILY’s List, and Planned Parenthood. In 2008, Emily was the online advertising campaign manager for Obama for America, where she managed a $9 million online voter registration, early vote and GOTV program that reached more than 1.2 million voters in 19 states. Emily was named a Campaigns and Elections "Rising Star" in 2010.

It has been 10 years since I first planned an online advertising campaign for a political client. Back then, it was mostly Blogads, a unique unit of image and text that ran on, you guessed it, blogs. There were no Facebook ads, there was no YouTube, there were no iPhones. It is remarkable to think how far we've come.

Last month, the National Journal Magazine published an article about the emerging role of Facebook as "the single most important tool" for digital campaigns in the 2016 race for the White House. I couldn't agree more.
