Craig,I agree with your comment that data is the fuel for programmatic, but I question the position that first party data is far more valuable than third party data. The value of the data depends on the marketing objectives. If the retailer wants to increase customer loyalty, then the first party data about their existing customers is very important. However, if the marketing objective is to generate new customers, then third party data is critical since retailer has very little if any first party data on people that are not customers yet.
