David Cohn is the senior director of the Alpha Group, an in-house tech and media incubator for Advance Local. He also serves as the co-founder and chief strategy officer of Subtext, a text-based subscription platform that connects a diverse range of content creators and subscribers for one-on-one communication via SMS. Subtext represents The Alpha Group’s fourth and latest venture, after the successful development and release of Pigeon, The Tylt and Elsewhere. David has written for Wired, Seed, Columbia Journalism Review, and The New York Times among other publications. Before working at Advance David helped launch AJ+ and Circa and was the founder of Spot.Us, all media/tech startups that received critical acclaim and success for product and their forward-thinking approach towards news. B.A. in Rhetoric and Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree in New Media from Columbia University.
