Smart TVs Are Becoming Home Entertainment Hubs

Millions of U.S. households in the past decade have connected their televisions directly to the internet, opening themselves to a broader universe of media channels. These smart TVs are becoming home entertainment hubs as their functionality expands with a widening group of connected-television apps, a study excerpt by Hub Entertainment Research indicates.

More than a third (38%) of U.S. consumers said the first thing they see when they turn on their most-used TV is the smart TV’s home screen with a menu of apps, while another 27% see the welcome screen for a streaming device such as a Roku, Apple TV or game console. These home screens are powerful gateways for content discovery and advertising, the survey findings suggest.
