Political Leaning Won't Trigger Social Media Ban, Sharing Bad Info Will

Political misinformation and lies are rampant on social media, especially as foreign agents seek to manipulate the opinions of voters during elections. In response, social media companies such as Meta Platforms and Snap have established anti-misinformation policies in recent years to remove posts.

These posts can include those deemed to be false by professional fact-checkers or platform users using ranking algorithms to reduce the likelihood that users see potentially inaccurate posts and suspending users who spread misinformation.

These content moderation policies have led to accusations that social media companies are biased in choosing which posts to remove.

A study in academic journal Nature finds that Trump supporters are more likely to share misinformation, making them more likely to get suspended.
