Halloween Spending Per Household Likely Will Decline

Halloween in the past 10-15 years has emerged as a significant occasion for consumer spending, not only on candy and costumes, but also on elaborate decorations, party favors, alcoholic beverages and snack food.

Amid recent economic uncertainties, especially for lower-income households, consumers are nearly 10 percentage points more likely to say they’ll spend less on Halloween items this year than more items, according to researcher CivicScience.

“That’s not dependent upon income, as data indicate this trend holds true among consumers of all income brackets,” CivicScience said in a report.
