Streaming subscribers have grown more choosy about which services they’re willing to keep as subscription fees rise and the choice of free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) apps grows. In some cases, viewers will cancel a subscription after binge-watching movies and shows, only to return months later when they’re lured back.
Tentpole programming is one way for streaming platforms to bring back lapsed viewers, according to a report by analytics firm Samba TV.
