Most Americans Can Spot AI-Generated Images, But Some Still Struggle

A new study by digital marketing consultant Joe Youngblood reveals that a majority of Americans are surprisingly good at identifying images created by artificial intelligence — but not without some notable exceptions.

The research, conducted with more than 4,000 U.S. participants aged 18 to 65, asked respondents to examine sets of two photos and choose which one was generated by AI. On average, 71.63% correctly identified the AI image, suggesting that most consumers are already adept at spotting synthetic visuals — a skill increasingly relevant in the age of generative media.
