Google Shopping Clicks Surge in Q1 Despite Rise Of Generative AI

Google this week will be in court to argue why it shouldn’t be broken up as punishment for running an illegal monopoly in digital advertising. While the outcome remains to be seen, the company continues to perform well, according to a quarterly report by marketing firm Tinuiti.

Google’s overall paid search click growth ticked up to 4% year-over-year in the first quarter, a slight acceleration from 3% in the fourth quarter of 2024. The boost was more pronounced in Google Shopping ads — including those delivered through Performance Max (PMax) and Standard Shopping Campaigns (SSCs) — which saw clicks climb 9% year-over-year, up from just 1% growth the previous quarter.
