Bots, Bad Clicks Quietly Siphon Billions From Digital Ad Spend

Advertisers are losing billions of dollars each year to invalid traffic that quietly drains media budgets while distorting optimization signals, according to new research from Lunio. The analysis found that more than 8 percent of paid media traffic does not originate from real users with genuine intent, translating into roughly $63 billion in wasted global ad spend last year alone.

For media buyers, the effect extends far beyond lost budget. Invalid clicks contaminate conversion data, mislead bidding algorithms, inflate acquisition costs and push spend toward campaigns that appear effective on paper but fail to generate revenue.
