Pride And Prejudice And Polling: Gallup Finds America's LGBTQ Attitudes Cooling Off

}
For years, public opinion on LGBTQ issues seemed to move in one direction: upward. Every new Gallup survey arrived like another quarterly earnings beat for social acceptance. More Americans supported same-sex marriage. More Americans viewed gay and lesbian relationships as morally acceptable. More Americans expressed acceptance of gender transitions.

Amid Pride month, the chart looks a little less like Nvidia and a little more like a mature consumer staples stock.

According to Gallup's latest Values and Beliefs survey, conducted May 1-17, support for same-sex marriage has slipped to 65%, down from a peak of 71% in 2022 and 2023. The percentage of Americans who view gay and lesbian relations as morally acceptable has fallen to 62%, its lowest level in a decade. Acceptance of changing one's gender has also declined, with 38% now viewing it as morally acceptable, down from 46% in 2021.
