Marketers spend billions trying to become part of the conversation. Meanwhile, Americans continue discussing the same topics they always have: the weather, local news, traffic, sports and whatever political argument is currently ruining Thanksgiving dinner.

Survey data compiled by TVB suggests local news remains deeply woven into daily social conversations, with seven in 10 adults discussing topics regularly covered by local television stations. The findings offer a reminder that while media platforms come and go, consumers still spend much of their time talking about what is happening in their communities and how it might affect their day.
