Marketers Get More Weddings To Target, Fewer Champagne Towers To Admire

Wedding season is back in force. The open bar, however, may be on a reduced schedule.

New data from CivicScience show that 27% of U.S. adults say they are planning a wedding, have already gotten married this year or expect to do so soon. That represents a 59% jump from last year's level of wedding intent.

For marketers, weddings remain one of the most reliable spending triggers in consumer life. People buying rings, dresses and floral arrangements rarely stop there. They also buy furniture, appliances, travel packages, insurance policies and enough decorative string lights to be visible from low Earth orbit.

The catch is that today's couples appear increasingly determined to celebrate without taking out a second mortgage.
