For years, the housing market has resembled an endurance sport where the prize was the privilege of taking out a 30-year mortgage at an interest rate usually reserved for distressed credit cards.But now, somehow, consumers have decided they're ready to play again.
Bank of America's 2026 Homebuyer Insights Report finds that optimism about home ownership has staged an impressive comeback. Ninety-four percent of consumers now say owning a home provides stability, up from 83% a year ago. Ninety percent still see a house as a valuable investment and 86% say it delivers emotional fulfillment.
