Pandemic lockdowns in March 2020 drove significant growth in online grocery sales, which moved from the No. 4 digital-commerce category to No. 1 within a few weeks. Grocery has remained the top category ever since, according to data compiled research company Comscore.
The grocery, baby and pet category last year totaled $266 billion in online sales, followed by apparel and accessories ($204 billion), computers and peripherals ($133 billion), consumer electronics ($99 billion) and furniture and appliances ($93 billion).
