According to a survey this year by the nonprofit Pew Research Center, more Americans said they prefer to get local news online, while fewer get news from television or in print. Amid this shift, newspapers aren’t primarily read as a print product with a majority of local newspaper readers accessing the content online.
Many Americans showed signs of valuing local news and local journalists. A significant majority (85%) of U.S. adults said local news outlets were at least somewhat important to the well-being of their local community, according to Pew.
