Obama To Nominate Genachowski FCC Chair

As expected, President Obama Tuesday announced plans to nominate campaign advisor and former law school friend Julius Genachowski as the next chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. The pick, which would be one of the last key selections for the Obama administration, likely will be the most influential one for the media industry. Genachowski, who was a key advisor on technology during the Obama campaign, is known to be digitally savvy and a supporter of so-called "net neutrality," which would keep Internet access open and under the control of users, not access providers.
