Recession? More Gift Cards, Please!

The weak economy has made Americans hungrier for gift cards, and a new report from National Research Network and the Hartman Group finds that 57% of consumers have purchased a gift card in the past six months -- an increase of 5% from the prior six-month period.

And while the average amount per gift card has decreased, to $46 per gift card compared to $52 in the prior period, almost half (48%) of gift card recipients spend more than the amount on the gift card.--Sarah Mahoney
