MyNetwork Turns To Dramas

MyNetworkTV's evolution has taken another dramatic turn. For its fourth season this fall, wrestling and movie night are gone in favor of two more off-net dramas.

Back-to-back episodes of "Monk" will air on Fridays with WWE's "SmackDown" gone, while two hours of "Without A Trace" will replace a movie on Thursdays. On Wednesdays, "Burn Notice" joins the schedule.

MyNetworkTV last fall refashioned itself as mostly a prime-time outlet for syndicated fare, looking for shows that had some proven ability to draw viewers. Its gambits with telenovelas, mixed martial arts, magic specials and other newfangled fare largely failed over three seasons.

Now, the network will have back-to-back episodes of the same drama four nights a week.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" continues on Mondays as new dramas take over all but Tuesday evenings, where a game night returns.

Episodes of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" will return Tuesdays and will be joined by new addition "Don't Forget the Lyrics."

News Corp., which owns MyNet, could have stacked the lineup with shows it owns. But on Thursdays and Fridays, it added NBC Universal's "Monk" and Warner Bros.'s "Without A Trace," respectively.

However, the addition of "Lyrics" does give it another show it owns. On Wednesdays, "Burn Notice" is owned by News Corp., but replaces a show the company owns.

With "Criminal Intent," "Burn Notice" and "Monk," MyNet will have three shows from USA network. Broadcasting & Cable first reported the addition of "Burn Notice."

MyNet affiliates are believed to split ad time evenly with the networks for the syndicated fare, with each receiving seven minutes an hour.

MyNet says ratings this season are up 22% in total viewers and 13% among 18- to-49-year-olds.
