The Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) has poached Charles McCullagh away from
Scientific American to serve as vice president/international. He replaces Jay Melvin, who retired from the
position. McCullagh, previously
Scientific American's managing director/international, boasts a diverse publishing and academic background. Recipient of a Ph.D in philosophy and theology from
Lehigh University, he is currently writing a book on magazines and culture that is scheduled to be published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. His previous publishing posts have been with
FHM
(as vice president/corporate strategy), DeSilva & Phillips (managing director) and Rodale (editorial and publishing director). At Rodale, he contributed to the U.S. and international launches
of
Men's Health and
Bicycling. McCullagh has also consulted for Primedia, World Publications and Emap.
