An original documentary series on American roots music premieres Thursday night. Keeping Time: New Music From American Roots is four theme-based half-hour episodes, beginning with Pickin' My Religion.
"Keeping Time" introduces viewers to American musicians and songwriters who are carrying the torch of traditional music - namely, bluegrass, country, folk, gospel, and blues - and are reinventing it
for a broader, younger audience. Treating traditional music not as a sacrosanct relic, but as a living, evolving expression, the artists featured on "Keeping Time" are making music that is relevant,
accessible and innovative yet true to its roots. The program includes performances by Gillian Welch, Nickel Creek, and Robert Randolph.
