MPA and American Society of Magazine Editors Honor Industry Veterans

  • November 10, 2003
Magazine Publishers of America and the American Society of Magazine Editors announced that they will honor two industry veterans at a single ceremony early next year. Meredith Corp. chairman and chief executive officer William Kerr will receive the MPA's Henry Johnson Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the magazine publishing industry and society. Ellen Levine, Good Housekeeping's editor-in-chief, will be inducted into the ASME's Hall of Fame.

Kerr has served as Meredith's chairman and CEO since January 1998. Prior to arriving at Meredith, he was president of The New York Times Magazine Group for seven years. Levine became Good Housekeeping's first female editor-in-chief in October 1994, and has presided over a period in which the mag became one of the industry's top 10 revenue-producers, with a circulation of 4.6 million. She was also instrumental in founding O, The Oprah Magazine in 2000 and Lifetime magazine earlier this year.
