Gannett Co., the largest publisher of U.S. newspapers, Friday reported August advertising sales of $372.7 million, a 10.7 percent increase over August 2003. That's an improvement over Gannett's
year-to-date ad sales growth, which rose 9.5 percent to $3.190 billion. National ad volume actually declined 5.9 percent among Gannett's local papers in August, but sales surged 22.8 percent on an
18.9 percent rise in ad page volume for
USA Today, which benefited from Summer Olympics-related advertising sales.
