Twitter Promises To Stop Cutting You Off At The Knees

In a stroke of pure genius, Twitter has decided to let people post photos as they were originally intended to be seen. Yep, as part of the social giant’s broader effort to engage more users, it’s going to stop cropping their darn pictures.

“By uncropping photos … you can experience and present them as they were meant to be viewed,” Akarshan Kumar, a product manager at Twitter, explains in a new blog post.

Marvelous as it is, it’s hardly an original innovation. In addition to square posts, Instagram recently began letting people share photos and videos in both portrait and landscape orientation.

That change was inspired by the internal insight at Instagram that nearly 20% of photos or videos posted to its platform are not originally in square format.

Twitter isn’t saying what share of pics posted to its platform are in what format, but, until now, you can be sure it has cropped a fair share of them.

Frankly, that it takes these sites so long to figure out that people are particular about user experience and publishing options is pretty lame. It’s the age of personalization and customization, for crying out loud.

Even an ancient brand like Burger King knows you like to “Have it your way.”
