'Smallville' Thinks Big, Places Deal That Is Heard, Not Seen

This week we decided to take on something different--the idea of a person, or in this a case, a music band--as a product placement. The band, Lifehouse, took to the stage in last week's episode of "Smallville."

Lifehouse is no stranger to the show. When "Smallville" first aired, the band's song "Everything" became Clark and Lana's theme song, and a huge hit everywhere. Well, Lifehouse is back and with a new album. The band was well incorporated into the show, making a special appearance at Smallville High's prom. In the week since the show's airing, Lifehouse's new CD has moved up 14 spots on Billboard's Top 100.

That's just one of the featured product placements of the past week brought to you by MediaDailyNews and branded entertainment researcher iTVX. Other notable placements include the following:

"That was easy" is the slogan for Staples--but ask the Net Worth team on "The Apprentice," and they may say differently, as their new clutter-free invention was torn apart by everyone including the Donald in the April 21st edition of NBC's hit show. Team Magna, however, fared quite better, creating the Desk Apprentice, a rotating organizer of stackable shelves, which Staples is now producing.

The Discovery Channel's April 25th installment of "American Chopper" saw the Orange County Chopper team finish what they started by crafting a bike for the Gillette company, using style techniques from Gillette's new M3 Power Nitro razor. The bike will be auctioned off this summer on eBay to benefit the National Prostate Cancer Coalition.

Ty Pennington and the makeover team help another deserving family in the April 24th edition of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." In this installment, the group not only builds the family a new home, but refurbishes the father's Ford pickup truck--and in the end, they throw in a little extra surprise--a new Ford F-150.

Christine and Jimmy look for new friends at the local Denny's on the April 25th episode of CBS' "Yes, Dear." Link back each Monday to see each week's fresh batch of top five branded deals.
