Correction: Nielsen Did Not Report Households Watch Fewer Broadcast Stations

  • March 16, 2006
A story in Monday's edition of Media Daily News ("Americans Get More Channels, Watch Fewer Of Them, Especially Broadcast) incorrectly implied that a new Nielsen Media Research report indicates Americans are watching less broadcast TV stations. The report does show that for the first time the number of broadcast TV channels received by the average American household declined, falling to 16.3 in 2005 from 16.4 in 2004. However, the report does not indicate any trends for the number of broadcast stations that are actually tuned to by the average household. In 2005, Nielsen said the average TV household tuned to only 4.2 broadcast stations, or about 27 percent of the 15.4 total TV channels they tuned to on average during 2005. -- Joe Mandese
