Women are the dominant online game players, reports Nielsen Entertainment in its third annual Active Gamer Benchmark Study. The research found that among the roughly 117 million Active Gamers in the
U.S., 56 percent play games online. Of this group, 64 percent are women. When all video games are considered, male players still outnumber female players by more than two to one, the research said.
In addition, Nielsen reported, the social elements of video games are becoming increasingly important. Teenagers are socially involved in gaming about seven hours per week.
