NBC Universal Starts Layoffs At NBC News

As expected, NBC Universal has started its company-wide series of layoffs, with NBC News first in the firing line. This week, 40 employees will be pink-slipped--most from NBC's "Dateline" show. The cutbacks are part of a broader NBC 2.0 initiative announced last month, which aims to save nearly $800 million over two years by eliminating 700 jobs while producing less-expensive prime-time programming.
