    Facebook Messenger appears to be testing a “conversation topics” feature, which makes suggestions on what to talk about with friends. “These conversation starters appear to rely on Messenger’s connection to Facebook’s larger social network, as they reference things your friends have done lately -- like where they’ve been, or events they plan to attend,” TechCrunch reports.
  • Twitter Taps Gregory Gopman For VR Efforts
    Twitter has reportedly hired AngelHack founder Gregory Gopman to boost its early efforts in virtual reality. To that end, “The company may add native 360-degree video integration as well as 360-degree video live streaming to its products in the coming months,” Variety reports. “Gopman … most recently worked for UploadVR, a Bay Area-based VR news site, events producer and co-working space.”

    Tinder just unveiled Smart Photos -- a new feature that automatically alternates the profile photo visible to potential matches. “Tinder’s algorithms test a number of photos to establish which one(s) perform best, and switch the photos around to display those that solicit the most right-swipes,” Venture Beat writes. “So, if that photo of you posing with your cat garners 10 percent more positive responses than the one with you caressing a beer, Tinder will switch the images around.”  
  • Facebook Adds Content To Apple TV, Google Chromecast
    Consumers can stream Facebook video content through Apple TV and Google Chromecast devices. “Support for the Apple TV is now available, along with other AirPlay-enabled devices,” Venture Beat reports. “If you have a Chromecast, you can now stream through your iOS device or your web browser -- casting from an Android device will be enabled ‘soon.’”

    Twitter is reportedly testing a new design that replaces the Moments tab on its mobile app with an “Explore” feature. “With the change, Twitter is opting to put ‘content discovery’ front and center in the app, rather than Moments alone,” Mashable reports. “Instead, the new Explore tab … highlights trending topics and search alongside Moments.”

    BuzzFeed and Twitter have partnered to stream an Election Night broadcast on the eve of the presidential election. “We’re going to be doing this live from inside the platform that is the beating heart of the election,” Buzzfeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith tells The Huffington Post.

    In search of higher quality content, Twitter just unveiled Periscope Producer. It’s “a way for broadcasters to stream any live-video feed directly to their Periscope following,” Recode reports. “That means video producers can capture footage on higher-quality cameras or use editing software to add multiple camera angles, graphics and pre- or post-roll advertisements to their Periscope stream.”

Groups is certainly fertile ground for monetization. Indeed, around a billion people presently use the service, according to TechCrunch.
  • Top Investors Pressure Salesforce.com Not To Pursue Twitter Buy
    In private, investors in Salesforce.com have reportedly been pressuring the tech giant not to pursue a Twitter acquisition. “The effort was led by Fidelity Investments, the mutual fund firm that is Salesforce’s largest shareholder, with about 14 percent of the company,” The New York Times reports. “At least one Fidelity portfolio manager emailed Salesforce about the deal being a bad idea.”
